PRP Microneedling: How Your Blood Can Heal Your Skin

Many people suffer from dull, aging, and scarred skin. Even with an effective skincare routine, your complexion still goes through a lot every day. From acne to sun exposure to environmental toxins, your skin faces a lot of harmful compounds. This can result in a less-than-ideal complexion, especially as you age.

PRP microneedling is a revolutionary skin treatment that renews your complexion using your body’s natural healing processes. If you want radiant, even, healthy skin, read on to find out how PRP microneedling can help.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, a substance that naturally occurs in your blood. It contains growth factors and other healing compounds that benefit your health. When PRP is injected into your skin, it stimulates cell regeneration and refreshes your complexion.

Platelets help your blood clot and heal injuries. This is why platelets are so effective at rejuvenating your skin. They help heal damage under the surface of your skin for a more even, radiant appearance.

We collect PRP from you by drawing your blood at the beginning of your appointment. Your blood vials are then placed in a centrifuge, a machine that spins the vials to separate red blood cells and plasma. The PRP contents are used for PRP microneedling treatments, and we discard the red blood cells.

The Microneedling Process

Microneedling is a skin treatment that uses a handheld skin pen with tiny needles. These miniature needles create tiny puncture wounds on your skin. Your body produces a substance called collagen to heal over these tiny holes.

Collagen is a fiber that keeps your skin firm and youthful-looking. It pairs with elastin to give your skin the ability to “bounce back” and stay smooth. Microneedling stimulates both collagen and elastin production to refresh your skin. This treatment combats signs of aging by increasing these compounds in your skin.

We apply a topical numbing cream to your face before starting the microneedling process. You won’t feel the needle punctures during the treatment. Dermatologists and other skincare professionals have been using microneedling for decades to effectively rejuvenate skin.

PRP Microneedling Benefits

During PRP microneedling, the PRP is infused into your skin while the small needles puncture the surface. By combining these two treatments, your skin heals quickly and appears more vibrant afterward. The proteins, growth factors, and other healing substances in PRP rejuvenate your complexion and help get rid of skin marks.

PRP infusion also helps stimulate collagen production. Your skin matrix needs collagen to remain youthful and elastic. Besides acne scars and uneven skin tones, PRP microneedling treats signs of aging. Other microneedling benefits include reductions in wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, and large pores after treatment sessions.

Because we use your own blood to carry out this treatment, you receive even more of the microneedling benefits. This all-natural treatment doesn’t require any artificial substances to refresh your skin. Microneedling is minimally invasive and very effective at regrowing healthy skin.

No Downtime Required

One of the best things about PRP microneedling is that it requires no downtime after your treatment sessions. You are free to leave and do whatever tasks you need to immediately afterward. But there are a few considerations you should keep in mind during the healing process.

We recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours after your appointment. This will give your skin time to breathe and heal from the micro-wounds. You should use strong sun protection following your treatment. The new skin is vulnerable to sun damage, and a sunburn can get in the way of your new gorgeous complexion.

You should avoid intense exercise for a few days as your skin heals. This will give your body time to dedicate all its resources to healing your skin. Light activity is fine and won’t interfere with the healing process.

Overall, this procedure is convenient and doesn’t have many special recovery instructions. As long as you take care of your skin, you will have no problems healing.

Candidates for PRP Microneedling

If the microneedling benefits sound appealing to you, you might be wondering whether you are eligible for this treatment. The majority of patients who seek PRP microneedling are able to get the treatment with no issues. There are a few health considerations to keep in mind.

Men and women who want to reduce scarring, sun spots, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation are good candidates for this treatment. Microneedling works for all skin tones, including darker skin.

Some other skin treatments have been recommended only for lighter skin, but PRP microneedling accommodates all skin shades. In fact, this treatment helps even skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation for those with skin tone problems.

If you suffer from inflammatory or infectious skin conditions, you will not be eligible. If you have problems with wound healing and excessive scarring, it’s best to avoid this treatment.

We will meet with you to go over your health history and determine whether you can get PRP microneedling. There are plenty of other skin rejuvenation treatments to choose from if this one doesn’t work for you.
